Fake utility worker getting into homes

Rancho California Water District (RCWD) warns customers against a thief posing as a water utility worker.

It was recently brought to the district’s attention that a thief has been posing as a water utility worker to get into customers’ homes; once inside, he steals homeowners’ possessions.

The thief reportedly wears a shirt and hat matching those of local utility workers’ and carries a clipboard. He explains that he needs to check the water pressure and asks to be let into the house.

RCWD suggests customers to be cautious and ask questions. All district employees have badges with their pictures on them for identification purposes. Homeowners are urged to ask for this identification when approached by a stranger claiming to be a representative of RCWD.

Customers are also welcome to call (951) 296-6900 to verify an employee’s identity.
