Sheppard Development helping to rebuild Fallbrook

The devastation of the Fallbrook (Rice Canyon) Fire has had a heartfelt, sobering effect on members of the community, including residents Rob and Carole Sheppard, owners of Sheppard Development.

“We sincerely wish those Fallbrook residents who have lost their homes or have experienced fire damage our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies,” said Rob Sheppard, an eight-year resident of Fallbrook.

He considers Fallbrook his home and says he enjoys all that the community has to offer. “I like the small town feeling and the open landscape,” he said. “As a hobby, I also enjoy that I can raise my horses here in town.”

With his passion for the community, Sheppard has a strong desire to help the people who have experienced a residential loss and/or damage from the horrific firestorm.

Sheppard believes that his in-depth knowledge in residential construction will help those who have sustained a loss.

While he remains sensitive to the damage in the community, Sheppard’s business mission remains strong: “I want to be known as someone who cares about the quality of level of work that I do and create a nice, pleasing environment for the homeowner.”

Sheppard became a licensed contractor in 1977 and his expertise lies in residential construction. “I am a third generation licensed contractor,” he said.

Interestingly, in college, Sheppard’s studies were focused on the arts. This artistic background enables him to be creative with custom homes.

“I love the design aspect in construction where I can get creative and really work with the homeowner,” he said. “I work in the direction of what will be pleasing [to them].”

After Sheppard creates the initial drawings, he hands them over to his architect, who creates the official drawings. “My business offers complete architectural design,” he said.

In addition, Sheppard’s subcontractors are both local and talented individuals. “I stick with the same subcontractors, so I have confidence in their quality.”

Sheppard’s reputation in the construction business remains untarnished. He is a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and has an unblemished record with the California State Contractors License Board.

The jobs that Sheppard undertakes are within the North County area. “This way, I can keep a close watch on them on a daily basis,” he explained. “My clients are also informed on the progress.”

Sheppard explained how in the early 1990s he took a hiatus from his own company to help champion a new construction company in Oceanside. As an adept construction manager, this new business became a top ten state rated company within three years. During this timeframe, Sheppard was featured in a Quality Remodel Magazine article.

Not only can Sheppard create a lovely custom home from the ground up, but he can also tackle any partial fire damage that may have affected a residence. Sheppard Development’s repairs will adapt to the existing residence, he says.

The same philosophy holds true for remodels and room additions. “You have to make it look like the addition, remodel or repair has always been part of the house,” explained Sheppard.

As many families rebuild their lives and homes after the fire, Sheppard remains both humbled and honored to help them each step of the way: “I want to work with these families from the early concept stage to move-in day.”
