FFA donates BBQ funds to fire relief

As Katie Kopitzke was singing about the “home of the brave” in the football stadium, the Fallbrook Union High School FFA members were getting ready to serve barbequed tri-trip dinners to the people who attended the last FFA dinner of the season on Friday, November 2.

A large crowd of people paid eight dollars each to sample some of the best tri-tip and barbequed beans around. Traditionally a fundraiser for the agricultural group, the proceeds from Friday’s event were directed toward the victims of the recent fire which burned more than 200 Fallbrook homes.

“Our officer team voted to do this,” explained President Jules Duffin.

All proceeds will be entrusted to Legacy Endowment, a local nonprofit community foundation that will disperse funds to the Fallbrook (Rice Canyon) Fire victims.

“One of the FFA alumni lost her home and quite a few Fallbrook High School students lost theirs as well,” said Duffin. “The community gives a lot to us throughout the year, like with the plant sale and coming down to the fair and purchasing animals, so it’s really nice that we can give back to the community when they need it.”

Duffin said that the event was advertised in grocery stores, at the post office and through school announcements.
