Paul Harris Fellows feted at luncheon

FALLBROOK — Connie Fish, herself a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF), presented the Paul Harris Fellow pin, plaque and ribboned medallion to new PHF Wendy Mickas at a recent Rotary Club of Fallbrook meeting.

Joel Banner was also recognized for becoming a three-time PHF, as was Dick Kremer, himself a three-time PHF, for naming daughter Kate Martin as a “Special” PHF.

Rotarians become Paul Harris Fellows by donating $1,000 to the Rotary International Foundation. As they donate additional money they become PHF +1, +2, +3 and so forth.

A “Special” PHF is presented to a non-Rotarian by a person who feels that person is special to them.

Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary.

Foundation monies are invested for three years and the earnings on the amounts are spent to provide assistance to needy people and causes throughout the world.

Examples include the Polio Eradication Program, which supplies the oral vaccination to children in places such as Africa and India, where the disease is still active; matching grant programs to provide such things as schools, wells for water and job startup capital to villages; and exchange student and teacher programs.

No monies are given to government or political entities, only to the end source through local Rotaries at the locations.
