Hate gophers, love barn owls

FALLBROOK — The nocturnal, tunneling, root-destroying gopher is regarded by some as the great scourge of homeowners. The barn owl, also nocturnal, is the gopher’s worst nightmare. Safer and more deadly than poisons or traps, a single family of barn owls will consume hundreds of gophers each year.

On November 29 at 7 p.m. Bert and Sharon Kersey will present their award-winning “Backyard Barn Owls” video. The program is sponsored by the Fallbrook Land Conservancy.

The half-hour video looks at the lives of four little owlets, from hatching in February through a comical “flight school” in April. The video will be followed by the Kerseys’ owlish observations about the lives and loves of barn owls, with plenty of time for questions.

The event will be at Fallbrook Public Utility District, 990 East Mission Road. There will be no charge.
