Healthcare District awards grant to Firestorm Relief Fund

In a special meeting on November 1, the Fallbrook Healthcare District Board of Directors unanimously awarded a special grant of $10,000 to the Legacy Endowment… The Community Foundation for the Fallbrook 2007 Firestorm Relief Fund.

The funds will be used only for victims of the Fallbrook (Rice Canyon) Fire whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged in the firestorm and must be directed to the provision of assistance in health-related issues caused by or exacerbated by the fire.

Legacy staff and volunteers will interview all applicants to discern needs and qualification. A special committee will review all requests before funds are awarded.

Fallbrook Healthcare District funds shall be utilized in the areas of:

• Payment assistance for fire-related physical illness or injury (doctor visits, hospital services, diagnostic studies, treatment)

• Mental/emotional issue (counseling services)

• Medication cost assistance (prescription and/or physician-advised over-the-counter)

• Replacement of medically required equipment and/or supplies (inclusive of eye glasses/corrective lenses)

• Defraying additional transportation costs to in- and out-of-area physicians, medical centers/hospitals, ancillary service providers)

Expenses covered by or reimbursed by insurance of the victim shall not be eligible. Periodic reports will be made to the district demonstrating utilization of funds with the established guidelines.

Additionally, as with all monies collected by Legacy for the Fallbrook 2007 Firestorm Relief Fund, IRS Disaster Relief requirements will be applied.
