Coolidge steps up for 'Step Up to the Plate'

FALLBROOK — Two-time Grammy Award winner Rita Coolidge will step up in support of the Boys & Girls Club’s “Step Up to the Plate/It Just Takes One” campaign by hosting an over-the-top special reception at the home of Sam and Ann Logan.

Anyone who donates $2,500 will receive two tickets to attend this event on Thursday, January 10. It will feature Coolidge singing some of her classic hits and she will also be available for a photo opportunity.

All attendees will also receive an autographed CD as well as being treated to fabulous appetizers and refreshments. Coolidge will also share some entertainment stories from her storied career.

Due to the recent fires, the Boys & Girls Club Lead Off-Hitters Luncheon for the Step Up to the Plate campaign was cancelled. The campaign was implemented with no fanfare on November 12.

All donors from last year’s campaign have been mailed letters asking them to consider renewing their support for this year’s campaign. The goal is to raise $200,000.

The campaign features five mock baseball teams competing against each other to see which team can raise the most money on behalf of the club.

“Due to the recent fires, our kids need our club more than ever,” stated campaign commissioner Louise Small. “Our club provides a safe place for kids to come to after school during the critical hours from 2 to 6 p.m. when kids need guidance and adult supervision. Over 800 children per day participate in club activities at our 10 locations. Our club is a safe haven for our youth.”

Anyone who would like to support the campaign can call the club at (760) 728-5871. Various levels of sponsorship are available.
