Congress' accomplishments discouraging

Reviewing what the US Congress and Senate have been able to accomplish since the last election is pretty discouraging.

Yes, I agree it has a lot to do with the size of their majority (i.e. not enough votes to overcome a Presidential veto), but it’s not just that. After all, Congress does control the purse-strings yet has fallen woefully short of doing anything with this power. Shame on them!

They just don’t have the political will to say to this President: “We’ll fund for the early return of our troops, and for the arms and equipment to ensure their safe return, but we will not fund for the continuation of this immoral war.”

Why do they lack this backbone? Could it be that the Democratic representatives owe their very seats in Congress to the monies funneled to them by the big defense contractors?

Personally, I would love to see a viable independent candidate – one beholding to nobody. It’s not gonna happen – too much money ensures the status quo. The best we can hope for in ’08 is that many disgruntled old-time GOP members, like me, will vote Democratic just this one time in order to rid the country of the plague in the White House.
