Field hockey reaches CIF semifinals

Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team reached the CIF Division I semifinals before closing its season November 15 with a 1-0 loss to top-seeded La Costa Canyon.

The Warriors had advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Rancho Buena Vista in the quarterfinals November 13. Fallbrook, which was seeded fourth for the CIF Division I playoffs, received a first-round bye.

The November 13 match was Fallbrook’s first-ever home playoff game on the new synthetic surface.

“Playing on the turf makes the game so much cleaner and more playable,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite.

The Warriors scored the quarterfinal’s only goal in the second half when Christine Plotts parlayed a pass from Jordan Bretsch for the successful shot. Goalkeeper Roslyn Reynoso recorded the shutout.

The Warriors played the semifinal match at La Costa Canyon. The game was scoreless until 13 minutes remained in the second half.

“The girls played wonderful. I’m so proud of their play,” Waite said. “Roslyn Reynoso had a great game. My midfield, defense, and forwards also did very well.”

The loss gave the Warriors a final record of 11-11-1, including a 3-3 record in Avocado League play which placed Fallbrook second in the conference standings behind San Pasqual.
