AAUW, AVID members visit aquarium

Last updated 12/6/2007 at Noon

Fifteen avid AVID students from Fallbrook High School had an educational and joyful trip to Birch Aquarium recently as part of the mentoring program sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Fallbrook.

AAUW members Guity Balow and Cinda Burke coordinated the trip for the girls and 12 other mentors and a wonderful lunch was prepared by Chris Assad.

The girls and mentors enjoyed a docent-led tour of the facility and then had time to explore on their own and enjoy the ocean surroundings.

A program of Fallbrook High School, AVID directs capable students who may not have the support at home to go on to four-year colleges and universities.

AAUW’s mentoring program provides outside social and educational opportunities for girls in the AVID program.

Barbara Ajello, current program coordinator, may be reached at (760) 728-1910 for further information regarding AAUW and the AVID mentoring program.
