Assemblyman Jeffries works to get scenic designation for Old Hwy 395

SOUTHWEST Riverside COUNTY — Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries (R-Murrieta) is working on legislation that would have Old Highway 395 deemed a historic state route. Jeffries’ staff is working on determining the exact path the original 395 ran, which includes areas of Fallbrook, Temecula and Murrieta.

In years past, Highway 395 was the major thoroughfare that residents relied on to travel from the San Diego area to points north. It was replaced in more modern times with Interstate 15.

If the legislative goal is achieved, it would provide the opportunity for local tourism groups to promote the traveling of the historic highway and hopefully draw more visitors to the area for economic benefit.
