Pop Warner cheer, dance teams excel

The Pop Warner cheerleading and dance teams recently competed in the local Palomar Conference competition at Cox Arena. During the competition, teams earned points based on a 75-second routine.

This year, Fallbrook had four cheer teams and one dance team competing at the regional level in addition to cheering on the sidelines each week. Also, a sixth team of 5- to 7-year-old cheerleaders rocked the sidelines at local flag football games.

Fallbrook’s Midget Chiefs and the Jr. Pee Wee Warriors qualified for further competition at the regional level. Other conference finishers were the Jr. Midget Braves, who placed fifth in their division, and the Pee Wee Tribe, who placed fourth.

During competition after Thanksgiving, the Midget Chiefs cheer team qualified to compete nationally in the small novice division in Orlando, FL.

The team is coached by Anjelica Perez. Team members going to Florida are Crystal Lowe, Madison Nelson, Brianna Panalez, Samantha Wright, Jesenia Perez, Casie Philley and Anne Rubio.

Although the team has been fundraising throughout the year by selling tacos after football and cheer practices, the team is still short of the $10,000 needed to send all of the girls to Florida.

Donations are requested from individuals and businesses in the community and are tax-deductible.

All donations received will offset travel costs. Donations can be sent to Midget Chiefs, c/o Fallbrook Pop Warner, PO Box 1866, Fallbrook, CA 92088.

Another standout performance came from the Jr. Pee Wee Warriors Dance team, which placed first in local competition and qualified to compete at nationals. The first of its kind for Fallbrook Pop Warner, the team is headed by returning coach Wendy Salyers.

The team is unique because historically Fallbrook dance squads have been scarcely represented in competition. The team has decided to forego the national competition this year.
