Festival organizers seek local films

FALLBROOK — More than 80 independent filmmakers from Austria, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and all over the US have already submitted their films to be judged for the 2008 Fallbrook Film Festival.

Festival organizers are still seeking entries from local filmmakers to be included in the 2008 program before the February 29 deadline.

The Fallbrook Film Festival is an offshoot of the Fallbrook Film Factory, a consortium created to bring a serious filmmaking capability to creative people who would like to write, act, produce and direct films.

“Our festival strives to encourage and promote emerging independent filmmakers by providing venues to screen their work and workshops to foster their talents,” says Director of Programs Linda Mandrayar.

Film screenings will take place April 25-27 at the historic Mission Theatre in downtown Fallbrook.

The festival will provide an opportunity for local and visiting film enthusiasts to view a wide array of carefully selected unique cinema from around the world. There are also a series of workshops scheduled at the Art Campus at Fallbrook and a full weekend of festivities and special events are planned throughout the town.

The film categories are Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short and Animation. Film and videos on all subjects in any genre are welcome.

The festival jury panel includes members of the Writer’s Guild of America, the Director’s Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild and a PhD of film studies from Yale.

Awards will be given in the categories of Special Jury Award and Best Student Film. Festival jurors may also award an unspecified number of honorable mentions at their discretion.

Statuettes and other prizes will be presented to the winners during a special ceremony at the festival.
