Holman offers the best in financial planning

Before Dennis Holman became a financial advisor and certified financial planner, he earned a master’s degree in rehab counseling. “I worked with severely psychiatrically disturbed adolescents,” he said.

At that time in his life, Holman decided to make a career change for a couple of reasons. First, he was on call 24 hours a day for three consecutive years, and a part of him knew he wanted to make a better living for his family.

“I needed to find something else to do,” he said.

Having a knack for mathematics, he passed the screening process and accepted a position with EF Hutton in La Jolla. The transition into his new career was a smooth one because he had a great mentor, said Holman.

“My mentor also felt that, because of my background in working with people, I would do the right thing for them,” said Holman.

His mentor was right. Holman has happily been in the finance industry for close to 30 years, and indeed has a history of taking care of people.

Holman claims that he has always gravitated toward working with companies that put clients first. Producing enormous revenues has never been a priority.

Fifteen years ago, Holman joined AG Edwards because they also endorsed and provided superior customer care. Their business philosophy coincides with Holman’s views, thereby making them a perfect match.

Holman has often been told that he listens to people quite well. “I understand what they are concerned about and what they are trying to achieve,” he said.

Holman has also been told that he has a wonderful ability to reduce the explanation of complex financial strategies into easy, understandable terms.

“That’s why I have clients who go back to the very beginning,” added Holman. “In order for any plan to be successful, there has to be a sufficient understanding; the absence of that is just futility.”

Holman believes that a financial plan is crucial. It is especially helpful for people who are having a rough time getting ahead financially.

“In terms of expenditures, it helps people take a look at their decision-making process,” said Holman.

With the new year just around the corner, Holman offers valuable advice.

For younger people who are in their thirties, having a financial plan is a great idea. “Sit down and understand the importance of why saving a little now can help you later.”

For those who are retired or nearing retirement, Holman does not want this group to be hurt with financial issues. Avoid a loose framework approach, he said. “You want to get an idea of what you want to do financially and nail it down; you also want to look at different financial scenarios.”

When Holman works out a financial plan for his clients, it gives them peace of mind by letting them know what needs to be done. “The way people invest their money should be compatible with what’s important in their lives.”

Holman not only offers his clients vast financial experience, which also includes estate issues, but also has a wonderful ear for listening. Throughout the years, he has established a loyal clientele.

“I like my clients,” he said, “and I really do enjoy working with them.”

Many of Holman’s clients have been with him for nearly two decades. “They stay with me because they know that I have their best interest at heart.”
