New owner brings exciting changes to Fallbrook Sports

Donica Kelsay became owner of Fallbrook Sports in May.

This recent venture into the retail business has become a dream come true, because Kelsay yearned for an exciting change – and she got what she asked for.

From all the businesses she could choose from, she felt a natural pull toward the sporting world.

“I just love to watch kids play sports,” said Kelsay.

At times as a youngster, she recalled, monies were tight and she wasn’t able to participate in athletic activities, so sports have always held a special place in her heart.

A mother now, Kelsay gets an absolute thrill watching her daughter play softball and, of course, seeing children come into the store and ogle items.

“Kids always come here and hang out,” explained Kelsay. “It’s fine with me because I know they’re safe here.”

Since acquiring Fallbrook Sports, Kelsay has made some fun, interesting changes at the shop. The colors are brighter, the store more inviting.

Kelsay has also stocked the store with more BMX bicycles. “Our selection of bikes is really great,” she said.

Fallbrook Sports also has a specialized section for used bikes that need repair.

In addition to skateboard, baseball, soccer and football equipment, Kelsay added more spark to the store by including items for lacrosse, field hockey, Razor Scooters, Air Soft and Ripstick to her inventory.

For those who are not up on the Ripstick craze, this board is a spin-off of the skateboard, providing riders with a fun-filled, twisty ride with two centered wheels directly under the board.

“We also have a paintball CO2 refill station,” Kelsay added. Fallbrook Sports is well-known for their selection of paintball equipment.

“My goal is to stock the store with quality and safe items,” said Kelsay.

Speaking of safety, Kelsay furnishes all safety gear from head to toe. The popular helmet made by Azonic can be found at Fallbrook Sports.

“You can actually plug your iPod into the helmet and hear the music,” she explained. “The speakers are in the helmet, not in your ears.”

This is a huge safety feature provided by Azonic, because the person wearing the helmet can still hear what’s going on within their surroundings.

One of the most exciting new additions to the store is Kelsay’s addition of a batting cage in the basement area. The pitching machine is capable of tossing a softball and/or baseball anywhere from 25 to 65 mph.

“I can adjust the speed,” she said. “Teams can come here and use it; families can come here and use it.”

Rather than driving out-of-town to batting cages in Temecula or Escondido, Fallbrook Sports now offers players the only batting cage in town. It’s a great opportunity for a player to practice form and make contact with the ball, said Kelsay.

Since the batting cage has become so popular, Kelsay recommends that people call ahead of time and make a reservation.

“A 30 minute session is $20,” she said. A one-hour session is available for $35. The store also offers special family-rate packages.

Kelsay loves her new business, since it gives her the unique opportunity to be part of the community. From sports equipment to uniforms, she is ready to help local kids and teams in all their sporting endeavors.

Fallbrook Sports is located at 205 North Main Avenue. The shop can be contacted by phone at (760) 728-8848.
