Car Club supports Hospital Courier Service

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club recently made a donation to the Fallbrook Hospital Courier Service to help with its important work in helping elderly people in the community.

The Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1959 and has served the community continuously since then. The Courier Service was formed by the Auxiliary in 1986 to transport local elderly patients to doctor, dental and other medical appointments on a volunteer basis. Drivers transport patients in their own vehicles for most of the appointments. The service also leases a van from the hospital which is wheelchair-accessible. The Courier Service is run by the Auxiliary and serves anyone in the Fallbrook Healthcare District. It pays the upkeep on the van and reimburses volunteer drivers their expenses. In summary it provides about 200 rides per month and, as a side benefit, allows the elderly to live independently for a longer period of time.

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club was formed about 40 years ago for the preservation and appreciation of older vehicles. It supports local non-profits with the proceeds from its annual car show held on Memorial Day. This year, for the first time, the show will be held on the grounds of Potter Junior High. The club has a very active membership, meets monthly and welcomes anyone with an interest in the culture. Vintage car ownership is not the criteria for membership - just an enjoyment of older cars.
