KnitWits take donations to Naval Hospital

Vicki Miller, Director of Pastoral Care Services at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, recently received bags of knitted and crocheted clothing for infant children and lap robes for the recovering injured and wounded military personnel.

All of the items were made by a group of volunteers called the KnitWits from Fallbrook.

The KnitWits were formed by Gigi Wiebach when, she says, “I wanted to do something for our marines and sailors who are fighting for our freedom and to help their families.”

The KnitWits meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the Fallbrook Senior Center. Volunteers also work in their spare time at home and bring the completed projects to Wiebach for distribution.

Some of the items recently delivered were baby sweaters, caps and booties for the families and lap robes for the patients at the Naval Hospital.

Wiebach says more volunteers are welcome and offers to instruct those who don’t know the craft. Those interested may call Wiebach at (760) 728-9074.
