Supervisors approve funding, ratification of guardrail replacement

Due to the emergency need to replace guardrails and culverts following the October fires, contracts to replace the guardrails and culverts were issued without Board of Supervisors approval. The supervisors ratified the contracts December 5, which also appropriated $2,270,000 for the work.

“Our folks got out there really fast,” said county Department of Public Works deputy director Donna Turbyfill. “It’s just appropriating the money.”

Approximately 17,000 linear feet of guardrail and at least five drainage culverts required replacement as a result of fire damage. Three emergency contracts totaling $1,500,000 and an amendment to an existing culvert replacement contract which added $270,000 were issued on an emergency basis. The remaining $500,000 appropriation allowed for additional reconstruction and replacement if necessary.
