Comfort, quality, style at Main Street Shoes

The Verrett Family became the proprietors of Main Street Shoes in the summer of 2006 and have discovered they really enjoy being in the retail business.

“Originally, I wasn’t looking at getting into retail,” said Richard Verrett. “It was by accident that my wife, Bennie, and I walked into this store.”

While his wife was shopping for shoes that day, they inadvertently struck up a conversation with the owner. And, as they say, the rest is history.

“I am enjoying this business more than I thought I would,” admitted Verrett.

Before they purchased the store, Verrett wanted to be sure that Velda Bujack would want to work for them. “She had already been working at this store for seven years and we wanted her to stay here when we became the new owners.”

Well, their wish came true. “She is one of the main reasons why we bought the store,” said Verrett with a smile.

Main Street Shoes offers footwear for men, women and children. Its main focus is offering comfortable shoes.

“We maintain quality and comfort even in the children’s line,” said Verrett. “For all ages, we strive for comfort as well as the stylish look.”

A good, well-fitting shoe is very beneficial, explained Verrett. Good arch support helps maintain a healthy posture. Proper-fitting footwear will help a person at any age walk correctly, protecting from bunions, knee and back issues and shin splints.

These kinds of issues don’t happen overnight, but they can sneak up on you, said Verrett.

“We are providing a special service and [filling a] need for our community,” he explained.

According to Verrett, every customer is treated with respect. “We want [customers] to feel like this store is home to them.”

The inventory at this shoe boutique is impressive and the majority of products offered are European.

For mature adults, the SAS and New Balance shoes are very popular. “They are a good walking line,” said Verrett.

Women are attracted to Mephisto, LaPlume, Eric Michaels, Trotters and Spring Step shoe wear.

“The Florsheim and Rockport men lines sell well,” shared Verrett, and the selection of New Balance tennis shoes is first-rate.

For children, Main Street Shoes has a huge Sketchers inventory. “We have their tennis shoes, sandals and dress shoes,” reported Verrett.

What’s growing more popular by the day is the Ecco line. The line is geared more toward the active younger crowd. This all-terrain item is perfect for trail walking, mountain climbing, running and water sports.

If someone walks into Main Street Shoes and can’t find the footwear line they are looking for, the Verrett family is determined to get those shoes into their store. “We do our very best to fill those special orders.”

Verrett’s goal for his business is to have a store that supports his community. “I want to keep on carrying great shoes; people like our store because of what we provide.”

He has an exciting vision of one day expanding his shoe boutique to possibly Northern California and/or Texas. But wherever he expands to, Fallbrook will remain his home. “We just love it here; it’s such a beautiful community.”

Main Street Shoes is located at 201 North Main Avenue. They can be reached at (760) 723-3470 or e-mailed at [email protected].
