Law enforcement contract with Pala tribe approved

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 December 4 to extend an agreement with the Pala Band of Mission Indians for law enforcement services at the Pala Indian Reservation.

The agreement covers a five-year period from December 1, 2007, to November 30, 2012. The contract includes a stipulation that costs and revenue amounts will be adjusted during the contract period to cover negotiated salary increases and other cost adjustments or service level changes.

Two sheriff’s deputies will continue to provide law enforcement services to Pala under the new contract. The Fiscal Year 2007-08 cost, which includes coverage under the previous agreement between the county and the tribe, is $237,100, which includes overhead costs as well as the salaries and benefits of the deputies, automotive costs, cell phone service, and supplies.

The previous agreement, which was approved by the Board of Supervisors in September 2005, covered the period from December 1, 2005, to November 30, 2007. Two-year agreements had also been approved in 2003 and 2001.
