Tall ships coming to Oceanside Harbor

OCEANSIDE — All law-abiding and loyal citizens are urged to be vigilant and alert to the presence on their coast of the fast and heavily armed tall ships: Lynx, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.

Join the flotilla on Thursday, January 3, at 3 p.m. as Lynx arrives and on Wednesday, January 9, at 3 p.m. when Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain arrive. They will hear the roar of their deck guns as these ships enter the harbor.

Lynx and Lady Washington were involved in the making of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Privateer Lynx was used to train the crew and actors in the intricacies of sailing a period pirate ship prior to filming and Lady Washington was featured as the HMS Interceptor in the film.

Lynx, Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain, along with the Spirit of Dana Point, will be fighting it out for control of Oceanside Harbor.

Visitors can climb aboard these tall ships and experience the roar of their deck guns, smell the black powder smoke mixing with the fresh sea breeze and cheer the crew on as they chase down the enemy. They will step back in time to warfare at sea in the age of sail and relive history.

Educational dockside tours, adventure sails and battle sail reenactments will be offered January 3-13. For times, cost and more information, call (866) 446-5969 or visit http://www.privateerlynx.org.
