Meeting concerning Rainbow Creek Jan. 9

RAINBOW — Rainbow Creek begins in the town of Rainbow and courses through the northern part of Fallbrook before reaching the Santa Margarita River. It has become severely impacted from many sources, including runoff from agricultural operations, septic systems and waste from farm and pet animals.

Due to the impacted water quality, new total maximum daily load (TMDL) regulations are in effect and will affect Rainbow Creek watershed residents (everyone in the high and lowlands will be held equally accountable).

To help residents of the Rainbow Creek watershed understand the new TMDL and how they can improve the water quality in Rainbow Creek, the County of San Diego, Mission Resource Conservation District and UC Cooperative Extension will be hosting a free town hall meeting on January 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at Rainbow Valley Grange, 2160 Rainbow Valley Boulevard.

Topics at the meeting will include septic systems, nurseries and agriculture operations and farm and pet animal manure management.

Representatives from the UC Cooperative Extension Farm and Home Advisor’s Office, San Diego County Department of Agriculture, San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Mission Resource Conservation District will be available to answer questions.
