Sandia Creek Ranch now a Pony Club Riding Center

DE LUZ — Sandia Creek Ranch (SCR) was recently approved as a Pony Club Riding Center. The staff at SCR is excited about this for many reasons, mostly because they are thrilled to be hosting this type of unique Pony Club.

A Pony Club Riding Center is slightly different than traditional Pony Club for several reasons.

First, members are not required to own their own horses yet are all still allowed access to Pony Club activities and functions. All members are given lessons on school horses in a variety of styles, plus horse management training varying in skill levels from beginning to advanced.

Once riders have progressed far enough to demonstrate a safe and proper riding ability, each is able to take “ratings.” Ratings range in skill level from walking over poles on the ground (D-1) all the way to jumping heights of four-plus feet (A).

Becoming a United States Pony Club Riding Center is no easy achievement, considering there are only 20 nationwide.

Head trainer and SCR owner Crystal Wylie has had years of experience with horses. Additionally, Tauni Beckmann, the trainer for SCR’s upper level riders, is one of only three USEA-ICP certified instructors in Southern California.

For more information on this new establishment, contact Wylie at (760) 728-9696 or Beckmann at (760) 505-2468.
