Fallbrook athlete to consider Stanford offer

FALLBROOK — Devon Holman, recruited by the field hockey coach at Stanford, has met the academic requirements for admission to the university. Holman will take an official visit to the campus this month and evaluate her options in light of the scholarship she is offered.

Holman, who played club soccer until last year, made field hockey her first sport in high school with the encouragement of Kathy Waite, Fallbrook High’s field hockey coach of more than 20 years. Holman’s goal of playing Division I field hockey in college is close to becoming a reality after focusing on conditioning, private lessons, summer camps and the Futures Program at the Olympic Center in Chula Vista.

Holman was one of 17 girls in the state selected to play on the California Team, which competed at the National Field Hockey Tournament in Virginia Beach, VA, in June. Her accomplishments as center midfielder on the high school varsity team this year include being selected player of the game by the opposition in eight out of 16 games.

A co-captain on the high school team, Holman was also named to the Union Tribune All-Academic Team and the first team for the Avocado League, the All-section Division I teams, the Hall of Champions all-section team and the Union Tribune All-San Diego section. She was the co-recipient of Fallbrook High field hockey’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Holman says her final choice will be between Stanford and the University of the Pacific in Stockton, which has already offered her a scholarship.
