Auditions near, director for 'Seussical' announced

Fallbrook Players has announced that the director for the upcoming production of “Seussical the Musical” will be Becky Cherlin Baird.

Baird is the founding artistic director of the J*Company Youth Theatre in La Jolla at the JCC. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a BFA in musical theater. She has directed extensively for various youth theaters in and around San Diego County.

After founding the award-winning and nationally recognized J*Company in 1993, Baird left San Diego and toured with Broadway’s first national tour of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” She has since directed “Joseph” locally and cast the most recent production of kids for the tour at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

Recently, Baird organized the “Making it on Broadway” workshop in San Diego. This workshop brought many megastars of Broadway and the New York City Opera to San Diego to work with children on an individual and group basis.

Baird spends part of her time as a private musical theater coach. Many of her students can be seen touring with Broadway productions, onstage at the Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Moonlight, Starlight and Welk theaters and on the silver screen.

Auditions for “Seussical” are Saturday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ages 8 to 18 are invited to audition.
