New restaurant in Bonsall is family's third

BONSALL — Fresco Trattoria just opened its third location, Fresco Grill Wine Bar, in Bonsall. This latest creation is the result of years of past experiences in the food industry and is a fusion between the Italian Tuscan style cuisine and a more contemporary grill concept.

All three of the company’s locations offer an extensive wine list, with wine from all over the world. Moreover, the company is planning to expand further in the next couple of years and the goal is to remain loyal to all their authentic recipes.

Fresco Trattoria was founded in Downtown Carlsbad in 1999 by Leone D’Arcangelo and his family. The restaurant originally opened as Tiberius Antro (The Emperor’s House), but the name was not easy to remember and three years later it was changed to Fresco Trattoria.

Originally from Sperlonga, Italy, D’Arcangelo was a chef in the Navy as well as for several restaurants in Italy. When he and his family came to the USA and visited Carlsbad, he fell in love with the location that reminded him of his hometown, beachfront settlement with aesthetically pleasing architecture.

After six years of success, on February 15, 2006, Fresco opened a second location in La Costa. This second, smaller location is more personal, with an intimate dining area and patio seating. The idea is to recreate a real Tuscan atmosphere, serving the best Italian food.

The young Italian chef, Giorgio Saturnino, Leone’s nephew, is running this location. All the food is made fresh every day and the recipes are as truly Italian as the two chefs.

The third restaurant, Fresco Grill Wine Bar, is located at 5256 South Mission Road in River Village. The D’Arcangelo family hopes their customers enjoy the atmosphere and the food that the chefs are creating to make the feel special.
