Manuel Richard "Sal" Salcido

Manuel Richard “Sal” Salcido, 91, passed away January 19, 2008, in Fallbrook, CA. Born June 10, 1916, in Pasadena, CA, he was a resident of Fallbrook for 34 years.

After graduating high school, Mr. Salcido attended college and military training. He was a pilot in the US Air Force, a veteran of WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam War and a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air medals. He retired in 1969 with more than 27 years of service.

He worked for the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant following his retirement from the Air Force and was also a building contractor. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Community, Knights of Columbus Council 7069 and VFW Post 1924. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening.

Mr. Salcido was preceded in death by son Christopher Salcido; brothers Mike Salcido, Lawrence Salcido and Joe “Alex” Salcido; and sisters Rita Herrera, Margaret Welzien, Isabel Flores and Lucille Guerrero.

He is survived by wife Deborah Salcido, Fallbrook; daughters and sons-in-law Tensie and John Lee, Kaneohe, HI, Marie Hayward, Anchorage, AK, Rebecca and Robert Jameson, Avondale, AZ, Elizabeth and Edric Guevara, Carlsbad, CA, and Ann Moffat, Glendale, AZ; sons and daughter-in-law Michael and Rosemary Salcido, Monrovia, CA, and Patrick Salcido, Seoul, South Korea; sister and brother-in-law Rose and Paul Martinez, Anaheim, CA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.

A vigil and rosary were held January 29 at Berry-Bell & Hall followed by a Mass on January 30 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
