Rare rehearsal open to public

ESCONDIDO — The California Center for the Arts will open a dress rehearsal to the public for a rare glimpse behind the scenes of a nationally recognized dance troupe on February 9 at 4:30 p.m.

The dress rehearsal of popular group Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo presents a unique opportunity to see all that is required of a nationally touring group, peek into a performer’s day and see all the prep that is needed before a show.

“Anytime performers get on stage, but especially dress rehearsals, are insightful glimpses into the art world,” said Vicky Basehore, president, California Center for the Arts, Escondido. “This is a great opportunity for aspiring dancers, curious patrons and really anyone interested in how the performing arts functions behind the curtain to see just that from the Les Ballets de Monte Carlo dance troupe. We are thrilled to work with them in bringing this extraordinary experience to our patrons.”

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, also known as “Trocks,” is the world’s foremost all-male ballet company. The troupe was founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting a playful, entertaining view of traditional, classical ballet in parody form and en travesty.

The group playfully blends their loving knowledge of dance, a comic approach and the astounding fact that men can, indeed, dance en pointe and in tutus.

The group will perform “Le Lac des Cygnes” (“Swan Lake,” act II) at the Center for the Arts on Saturday, February 9, at 8 p.m.
