Marie (Maja) Olson Eddy

Marie (Maja) Olson Eddy passed away January 31, 2008.

The daughter of Swedish parents Hildegard and Manfred Olson, Marie was born May 12, 1917, in Portland, OR, where she first met her future husband, Henry Delmar Eddy. Often, she happily remembered pushing Henry around in a buggy at the tender age of 2.

Marie grew up in San Francisco, where she attended Lowell High School. She was an avid scholar and began college at the University of California, Berkeley at the age of 16. Marie enjoyed hiking, skiing, tennis and gardening.

While living in a boarding house in San Francisco, Marie and Henry met again by chance more than 20 years later. Instantaneously, they fell in love and were married during World War II. It is a genuine fairytale.

Marie was admired for her dedication to community service and philanthropic endeavors. A few of her greatest successes were her work in northern California with the Marin Art and Garden Center and The Marin Conservation League. Later in her life she provided occasional assistance to Save Our Forest in Fallbrook.

Marie’s tenacious spirit, compassionate heart and spitfire personality will continue to live on in the hearts of the numerous people who were graced by her presence.

Marie is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Lynne Eddy Tsubouchi and Kazuhiko Tsubouchi and Barbro Eddy Hutchison and Ed Hutchison; grandchildren Rachel Connelly and husband Greg Wang, Alexis Connelly and Lisa Tsubouchi; and great-granddaughter Camille Maja Wang.

Marie was very active in the communities where she lived and would appreciate any remembrances be sent to one of the following:

• Fallbrook Land Conservancy, PO Box 2701, Fallbrook, CA 92088
