Tribute to Glenn Miller, Fabulous Dorsey Brothers

Some of the greatest music of all time will be recreated by an all-star cast in a tribute to Glenn Miller and the Fabulous Dorsey Brothers on Saturday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.

The show features Debby Boone, The Pied Pipers, String of Pearls, Dorsey Brother alumni and the Tex Beneke Orchestra.

The 15-piece Tex Beneke Orchestra, under the direction of saxophone player Jim Snodgrass, will play the best of the Glenn Miller and Tex Beneke songbook including “Tuxedo Junction,” “In the Mood” and “St. Louis Blues March.”

In a tribute to the Fabulous Dorsey Brothers, the orchestra, under the direction of master trombone player Bill Tole, will play such Dorsey classics as “So Rare,” “Song of India” and “Tangerine.”

A special guest star for this memorable evening is the lovely and talented Debby Boone, who earned instant fame in 1977 when “You Light Up My Life” became an overnight hit. In addition to her hits, Boone will be performing a special tribute to her late mother-in-law, Rosemary Clooney.

Joining the band onstage in a tribute to the Dorsey Brothers will be famed vocal group The Pied Pipers. They initially joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in 1940 and began a string of hit recordings such as “I’ll Never Smile Again,” “This Love of Mine,” “Stardust” and “Oh, Look at Me Now.”

Rounding out this fine cast is vocal group String of Pearls singing all-time favorite classics. This talented trio has performed all over the country with their classic big band jazz sound, bringing to life such classics as “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Kalamazoo.”

Tickets for this very special show are available at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido box office, or by calling (800) 988-4253.
