Second-graders present poem to fire dept.

FALLBROOK — On Tuesday, January 22, Mrs. Fieri’s second grade class from William H. Frazier School presented a poem to North County Fire in honor of the effort civic and military heroes put into protecting Fallbrook during the fires last October.

The poem was written collaboratively by the entire class as a way of dealing with everything they had experienced. Representatives from the class read the poem at the meeting of the fire board and then presented a framed copy to Chief Bill Metcalf as a memento for the station.

Another copy of the poem was also given to the local Sheriff’s station. Two deputies delighted the children by coming to the classroom to personally thank them for the poem and give the kids a chance to ask questions about their profession.

Fire in Fallbrook

Fires everywhere; ashes everywhere,

Wind blew in my eyes.

Dirt flew in the air.

Fire popped over the hill.

Smoke rose in the sky.

Dirt and ashes flying in the sky like a hurricane.

Trees fell from the crazy wind.

Fire surrounded us.

Scared that my house would catch on fire, I felt nervous.

Sad leaving our pets,

I went to Grandma’s house.

When I was going to Los Angeles, I saw houses burning down.

Sleeping at my cousins’, we closed the windows because of the smoke.

Smoky air made me cough.

I feel gloomy; I feel uncomfortable.

My friend’s house burned down.

Brave firefighters saving lives,

Police, ambulances, military swarm Fallbrook.

Thankful to them all for keeping us safe and saving our town.
