Car Club donates to Historical Society

At the February board meeting of the Fallbrook Historical Society (FHS), the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club (FVCC) gave a check to the society to help with the new barn building expenses.

Donations by the car club, from proceeds of the annual car shows on Memorial Day Sundays, have helped more than 20 nonprofit groups just this past year. The hope is to continue with the profits from the 2008 show planned for Sunday, May 25. For the first time it will be at Potter Junior High.

Glen Patterson, who has helped with computerizing the historical society’s collections inventory, is a longtime member of the FVCC and chairman of the car show registrations. Since early winter he has been processing pre-registrations for the expected 300 entries for this year’s show.

There are registration applications at the museum and at many businesses in the village. Applications can also be obtained by calling (760) 723-2818.

FVCC meetings are at the Woman’s Club the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. People do not have to own a vintage car to belong, just enjoy cars of any vintage.

Lou Schweitzer, also a longtime member and supporter of the car shows and other club activities, recently helped FHS by refurbishing an antique loom that was donated to the society.

A member of the weaving group that meets at the Guajome Museum, Schweitzer is now threading the loom so that it can be used to demonstrate the craft.

Busy with many activities, the FHS board members voted to hold their annual meeting as a potluck luncheon in the new barn, and for the first time, to have the April meeting open to the public.
