The truth is

Have you ever wondered where the truth went? While I watched the presidential debates, I couldn’t help but wonder where the truth went. These politicians seem to do anything in their power to cover up the truth about everything. They throw all sorts of useless information out about what really matters to the voters. But it isn’t only the politicians.

Today you can’t seem to find the real truth anywhere. The mantra of our society today is “the truth is what we perceive it to be.” In other words, if it helps me get out of trouble, that is the truth.

Many of our youth only believe what they can see in the media, be it TV, the Internet or any one of several magazines on the shelves today. They can’t even rely on their parents to get the truth.

It would seem in this day and age, with all of our technology that we could come closer to the truth than ever before. But in fact that is not the case.

Most people, though they have access to all of these great tools, would rather make up their own truth to go along with their less then truthful lifestyles so they can feel good about themselves.

Truth is, we do more to cover up the truth than we do to expose it. Just like Adam and Eve did in the garden. When they sinned, they tried to cover up the truth with a couple of fig leaves.

Folks, there are many of us doing the same as Adam and Eve, only to find ourselves in seemingly worse circumstances. I don’t want the reader to lose hope, though. I have found a place where the truth about any circumstance can be found. It is a sanctuary of sorts, where we can know for certain that truth exists. It is in the word of God.

The word of God says, “For the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb 4:12-13)

To me this says: if I want to know the absolute truth about any situation I find myself in, I can find it in the word of God. It might be uncomfortable, it might not be easy, but it will be the absolute truth.

I want to challenge each of you in the future. The next time you find yourself in a seemingly impossible situation, open the bible and see what God’s word says. Then comes the hard part – do it! See what the result will be. I promise you it will be better than the alternative.
