Coro Hispano de San Francisco to perform in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook Music Society will present Coro Hispano de San Francisco in a newly added concert on Sunday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will be San Diego County’s only appearance of this premiere ensemble whose music embraces the choral literature and music of the people of North and South America, Spain and Portugal.

Under the direction of Juan Pedro Gaffney, R., Coro Hispano’s music ranges from the 12th century to the 21st in a program that draws its listeners off the beaten path of standard repertoire, crossing over into new sounds, finding new delight in old sounds, exploring traditions still alive and vibrant but virtually unknown to mainstream ears.

“Musica Festiva de las Misiones” represents the historical and sacred repertoire from the missions and ranchos of early California in a rich array of textures, styles and sonorities.

Outstanding vocal soloists and instrumental works by some of the West Coast’s leading names in early music combine with foot-stomping Veracruz zapateados and robust, ranchera-style singing.

“We are delighted to have an opportunity to showcase Coro’s unique repertoire,” says Brenda Montiel, president of Fallbrook Music Society. “It’s a wonderful program that crosses styles, languages and centuries, inviting the audience into a whole culture through music that fills the soul.”

This “American Masterpieces: California” performance is funded in part by the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Western States Arts Federation.

The concert will be held in the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts, 2400 South Stage Coach Lane. Tickets ($25 adult, $10 students) are available at (760) 451-8644 and online at http://www.fallbrookmusicsociety.org.
