Mildred Alma Black passed away on the morning of February 19, 2008, due to complications from advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Known to her friends as Mickey, she was born October 25, 1916, to John Owen Gallagher and Alma Bertha (Coughran) Gallagher in Whittier, CA. She graduated from Fullerton High School in 1934 and from UCLA in 1938.

She married Jack David Black on July 4, 1941, in Las Vegas, NV. She resided in the Buena Park area until the early 1970s, at which time she moved to the Rainbow/Fallbrook area.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack (January 19, 2000) and is survived by children Ellen Black-Eacker, Norco, CA, and David (Yvonne) Black, Bellingham, WA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother John C. Gallagher, Carmichael, CA.

Mildred Gallagher Black was an accomplished woman who was a concert level pianist at the age of 18. She was literate in four languages and an avid student of human behavior.

Her talents were many, her failures were few. She was distinguished in her field and she always had a smile and time for her family, friends and those who were in need.

During the 1950s through the early 1970s she was a social worker for the March of Dimes and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. She loved her family, playing the piano, baking cookies and rain and will be sorely missed by her family and friends, but she is in a much better place now with her beloved Jack.

She will be interred at the Loma Vista Cemetery in Fullerton next to Jack following a memorial service at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary on Saturday, March 1, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or March of Dimes in her name.
