Emily Bernadette Dorrell Arnold

Emily Bernadette Dorrell Arnold, 88, died February 16, 2008 at Franklin Grove Nursing Center, Franklin Grove, IL following a lengthy illness. Emily was born in Alameda, CA on June 7, 1919. She attended Marin County Community College. She was married to William F. Dorrell and had two children, Carol Dorrell Goldman and Judith Dorrell Bell. The marriage ended in divorce.

She married J.G. (Jack) Arnold and had five children: Sharon Arnold Torres, Stephen Arnold, Shawn Arnold, Stacey Arnold Palmer and Shelly Arnold Alcala. She is survived by all of her children, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands William F. Dorrell, Jack Arnold, one brother and four sisters.

Prior to moving to Illinois, Emily was an 18-year resident of Fallbrook, most recently a resident of Silvergate Retirement residence. She loved animals of all kinds, music of her era, had a passion for reading and was a volunteer at The Bottom Shelf of the Fallbrook Library. She was known for her exquisite penmanship learned as a girl in classic Palmer Method of handwriting.

During her lifetime Emily was primarily a homemaker. During World War II she worked in an aircraft factory a la “Rosie the Riveter.” However she held various positions in the retail and grocery businesses as a salesperson and demonstrator.

Emily was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made in Emily Arnold’s name to Fallbrook Library Building Fund or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
