Rotary hears about the future of avocados

Last updated 3/13/2008 at Noon

John Schmidt from Harvest Time Avocado Packing gave Fallbrook Village Rotary members a brief overview of the avocado industry in California at their February 19 meeting.

In spite of the recent freeze and fires which have damaged many groves, Schmidt remains optimistic about the avocado industry’s future. More efficient tree care, newer fertilizers, better use of water and a higher quality of fruit, combined with the increased appetite of the American population for avocados, bode well for the industry.
