Author to visit Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — “Run,” the latest novel by internationally acclaimed author Ann Patchett, is the selection for the Fifth Annual Community Read sponsored by Friends of the Fallbrook Library.

The author will be the honored guest and featured speaker at the Friends annual luncheon, celebrating its 45th anniversary, Thursday, April 24, at Pala Mesa Resort’s Cliff Terrace.

Patchett was born in Los Angeles, raised in Nashville and attended Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

Her first novel, “The Patron Saint of Liars,” was named a New York Times Notable Book for 1992. Her other award-winning books are “Taft,” “The Magician’s Assistant,” “Bel Canto” and “Truth & Beauty,” a memoir of her friendship with the writer Lucy Grealy.

“Run” is available through the library or for sale at the Book Nook, 129 East Hawthorne, and copies will be available for purchase at the luncheon.

Tickets for the luncheon are $35 per person (open seating). In addition there are two other sponsor opportunities: Gold Sponsor, $300 per person (includes a reception honoring the author on Wednesday, April 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Pala Mesa, luncheon with reserved seating and a complimentary book bag with special gift), and Silver Sponsor, $100 per person (includes luncheon-open seating, complimentary book bag and one-year membership in the Friends).

Luncheon reservation forms are available at the library or Bottom Shelf Bookstore and the deadline is April 17. For more information call Peggy Kesterson at (760) 451-8686. All proceeds will benefit the new library building fund.
