Award-winning cook to prepare dinner at Grange

Rainbow Valley Grange member Tracy Lathrop is preparing the group’s annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner for the second year in a row on Sunday, March 16, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Lathrop will be assisted by Tammy Varvel and other Grange members.

Besides having cooked a fantastic meal last year, Lathrop won the Best Amateur Chili award at Fallbrook’s Chili Cook-off last August.

The dinner (which will include potatoes and carrots, salad, roll, dessert and a drink) will be served by the Grange Youth Fair Team.

The Grange Hall is located at 2160 Rainbow Valley Boulevard. For cost or more information about the dinner, call (760) 451-8979.

The Grange is also preparing for its fourth annual Show Season Opener Livestock Show, which will be held at Riders Field on Saturday, April 12.

The show gives local youth, including 4-H and FFA members, a chance to acquaint their young animals with the show ring before the fair season starts.

Competition will include Boer, pygmy and dairy goats and steers.

As the Grange’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Show Season Opener will also include a food booth serving breakfast and lunch, a bake sale, silent auction and raffle. Everyone is welcome to come see the youth and their animals in action.

For more information on the show, call (760) 728-1698.
