FUHS girls' sophomore/freshman softball looking strong

Excitement has grown around the diamond this season for Fallbrook High School girls’ softball.

The number of players has increased, enabling a full roster for sophomore/freshman, junior varsity and varsity. This can only point to growth and a bright future for the club.

Along with the returning Lady Warriors, 15 incoming freshman have been welcomed into the program.

Fallbrook Warrior softball has welcomed Al Padilla into the coaching fold. Padilla is an energetic coach who has much to offer the game. He has shown he has what it takes to bring the girls together.

The sophomore/freshman team has already shown they are a team in spirit and camaraderie, working together to fine tune their collective skills on the field.

In February, the sophomore/freshman team faced their first competitors, Mission Hills High School. The girls were victorious.

With freshmen Lindsey Wactler pitching and Daniela Iniguez catching, seven innings were played with great determination. Plays were made at every position, dominating the Grizzlies and winning the game with a score of 27-3.

On March 4, they faced Escondido. It was a well-fought game. Against Escondido’s strength and skill, the Lady Warriors played hard and showed their spirit cannot be broken.

Freshman Jahna Jordan led the team in cheer as each player went up to bat against the fastest pitcher in the league. With a loss of 25-0, the girls still left the field with grace and pride.

In the stands, Escondido fans were taken aback by the sportsmanship of Fallbrook and applauded their “never back down” attitude.

On March 6, the girls faced another fierce competitor, Steele Canyon High School, at home. The stands were filled with parents and supporters who watched as the girls made some fumbles as well as some pretty awesome plays.

Jordan (third base), Brittany Mahr (centerfield), Sarah Nakamoto (second base), Madison Vojak (first base) and Wactler (shortstop) made amazing plays to keep the Cougars from increasing their lead in the final two innings.

The Lady Warriors are collectively showing their Warrior spirit and this season is destined to prove that these young women are taking the heart and character of the game to a new level.

Additional sophomore/freshman team players: Brianna Stofflet, Brittany Doherty, Carla Mercado, Giovanna Nakamoto, Maddie Proctor.
