Team Do or Di competes in Destination ImagiNation

On Saturday, March 1, a team of six 10-to-12-year-olds from Iowa Street School joined hundreds of other students from throughout Southern California for the regional competition of Destination ImagiNation, a worldwide tournament of creative problem-solving for youngsters from elementary through high school.

Beginning last fall, these six students – Colton Dapper, Kevin Allenstein, Jordan Lemke, Hunter Hults, Trevin Kraus and Teresa Brodak, known as Team Do or Di – along with team manager Robin Dapper, a local teacher, chose a multifaceted “challenge.â€

This challenge included finding a myth from a foreign country, testing it scientifically and creating an original eight-minute skit about it, including props and costumes from recyclables, all with no hands-on adult help.

At the presentation, Team Do or Di was appraised and scored not only on their performance but on their team-building, problem-solving, creativity, time and resource management and research skills.

They finished just shy of being one of the top three teams to go on to the next level.

Although it has been a lot of work for the team, at the end of the day they all agreed that it had been fun. They are looking forward to doing it again in hopes of going on to the state competition next year.
