March is Disability Awareness Month

FALLBROOK — Care-Rite Vocational Services reminds residents that March is Disability Awareness Month.

Fifteen years ago, Care-Rite began assisting disabled individuals in Fallbrook, allowing them to be as independent as their disabilities will allow. Today, they have grown to serve 33 individuals.

Care-Rite assists the disabled by helping integrate them into the community through volunteer work, working at various businesses and developing friendships.

“We feel it is equally important to educate the community about disabilities and show them that these individuals can be a vital and contributing part of the community,” said Cathy Gilpin.

The individuals they assist can be seen volunteering their time cleaning up trash around town as part of the Fallbrook Beautification Project and volunteering at North County Fire Protection District, the Boys & Girls Club, Fallbrook Food Pantry, Fallbrook Library and much more.

They work in paid positions at Major Market, 7-11, El Tigre Market, Fallbrook Tire, Fallbrook Flooring and the Village News.

“We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of the businesses, churches and organizations in Fallbrook who allow us the opportunity to grow and learn each day by giving our individuals volunteer and paid positions,” said Gilpin.
