Boys & Girls Clubs receive boost from Supervisor Horn

The Boys & Girls Club of North County will receive $10,000 of matching funds to help cover the costs of hosting this year’s auction and dinner fundraising event.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 March 11, with Supervisor Ron Roberts absent, to allocate $70,000 of District Five Community Projects funds to various Boys & Girls Club entities for specific projects contingent upon the Boys & Girls Club first raising an equal amount.

Each supervisor has a discretionary Community Projects budget which may be used for schools and non-profit organizations which provide services to county citizens and can also be used to supplement other county funding for specific county projects, although allocation of the funds requires approval of the Board of Supervisors.

“This item is about really what we call prevention,” said Supervisor Bill Horn. “It will help each one of these clubs and keep the families and these kids off the streets.”

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

“Each one of them deserves tremendous credit,” Horn said. “They have really been a stable support for the families of North County.”

The Boys & Girls Club of North County has been in operation since 1962.

Proceeds from its annual auction and dinner are used for Boys & Girls Club program costs. This year’s auction and dinner will be held on May 31.
