Soldiers to be escorts for Miss Fallbrook pageant

FALLBROOK — Marines in dress blues will escort the contestants participating in the Miss Fallbrook pageant in the evening gown portion of the program on Saturday, March 29, at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing Arts.

Members of Soroptimist International of Fallbrook, the sponsor of the pageant, say the theme of this year’s pageant will be “A Star-Spangled Night.”

The 12 contestants will perform a dance to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

“This year’s pageant is a salute to our military veterans, active and retired,” said Patricia Harrison, pageant coordinator. “The girls will be wearing shirts from Marines who have been to Iraq, some for four times.”

The event will begin at 6 p.m. that evening; a color guard will open the event and Kate Derr, Miss Fallbrook 2007, will sing the National Anthem. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will serve as ushers.

Tickets for the pageant can be purchased from the individual contestants or at Major Market.
