Mother of slain woman sets wonderful example

Recently, when reading the comments made by the mother (Patty Porter) of the young, pregnant woman who was killed by Bobby Cutts Jr., when the admitted killer of her daughter was brought up for sentencing, she asked the court to show mercy on him.

Not only had Cutts killed her daughter and her end-of-term baby girl, but he had left their 2-and-a-half-year-old son alone at the house after witnessing the murder. Ms. Porter is now raising that boy.

She asked that Cutts be freed at some point so he could share life with his son.

“I hope and pray I can raise him to forgive you,” she told Cutts. “I forgive you.”

She has forgiven the “unforgivable.” Who would do that? Only someone who loves God and has experienced His forgiveness.

It is so easy to say from a pulpit that we should forgive our enemies, but Ms. Porter has exemplified forgiveness under the most difficult of circumstances.

As Easter approaches, when Christians celebrate the author of their Faith being crucified and resurrected so they could be forgiven, let’s also be thankful for Ms. Porter and the wonderful example she has given us.
