Rosemarie Lintner: jet-setter with a new goal

Rosemarie Lintner is a vivacious Fallbrook resident who recently celebrated her 80th birthday in Columbia. She does happily admit her involvement in more than one celebration for this great milestone.

“Actually, I spent it having one party after the other for about a month,” said Lintner, smiling.

What brought Linter to Columbia was an invitation from her son, Stephen. She met him in Miami and they flew together to Columbia.

“Stephen works for World Bank and he was a keynote speaker at the Ocean Securities Initiative,” explained Lintner. “He invited me to come for my 80th birthday.”

Attendees of this week-long meeting were country officials, and a conglomerate of nations joined together to discuss the securities of their oceans.

A rather lovely soiree was celebrated following the end of this engagement, and it was an event that has made an imprint on Lintner.

“I had a ball,” she said.

In the course of the evening, a member from a strolling professional dance group spotted Lintner.

“This young, good-looking guy took one look at me and I danced with him,” said Lintner, grinning. “I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.”

Lintner is no stranger to jetting around the world. She has been known to frequently fly off to various destinations. Typically, the start of each new year begins with a Hawaiian vacation with her son Mark and his wife.

Her other travels, she said, are done through a vacation trade.

“I trade my house with someone else in a different country,” she said. “That’s one of the ways I travel; I’m anticipating going to Mount Marta in Port Phillips in Melbourne, Australia, in the spring.”

Furthermore, Stephen often invites her on his extensive travels.

In essence, Lintner is always on the go and can be ready to depart on a moment’s notice. “Have suitcase, will travel,” she quipped. “I can clear the house in 15 minutes.”

Lintner’s goal is to visit 50 countries before hanging up her travel ticket for good. But it appears that total has been revised now that she has reached number forty-nine.

“The total is now 60 countries, and I just increase it as I go,” she said.

With all the countries Lintner has visited, to this day, she contends that Machu Picchu in Peru was extra-special. “It was awe-inspiring.”

When Lintner is not motoring around international airports, she is actively working with the Sheriff’s Department Senior Volunteer Patrol or at People to People. She is a passionate supporter and board member for People to People.

Volunteering for one’s community is a core belief of Lintner’s.

“I believe that everyone owes the community something,” she began. “Find your niche, because it’s vital that you give back.”

Only members of the community can make their town better, she added.

Lintner’s recipe for living a full life is simple: get out of the house and keep going. Keeping both your feet and mind active is the key to happiness.

“People are unhappy because they shut themselves off from things,” said Lintner.

It’s obvious that Lintner loves people and embraces each and every day with vigor.

“Life is as good as you are going to make it,” she said.
