Re: 'Slow down, Fallbrook' [Letter, 3/13/08]

In response to Rex Oyler’s letter of March 13, speeding excessively is reckless driving.

I also found it interesting that poised next to Mr. Oyler’s letter was an important request for witnesses to a March 2 hit-and-run accident. I sincerely wish luck to the Bongerz family.

I, too, am disgusted with the way these speeders endanger our lives.

Several weeks ago, while we were stopped on South Mission waiting to make a left turn onto Green Canyon, an oncoming car was almost rear-ended by a speeding, beat-up little maroon car that nearly fishtailed into the front end of our truck.

A second incident occurred March 2 when we were southbound on Old Stage.

As we approached Aviation Road, we heard the sound of screeching tires and saw smoke billowing from the same maroon car.

The car had to be doing at least 70-80 mph, eastbound, crossing Old Stage onto Kiel.

Apparently he/she had no intention of stopping until seeing us, was unable to stop and barely missed broad-siding us.

We circled around and found that beat-up maroon Toyota Camry. I jotted down the vehicle info and called it in to the CHP and they made note of the incident.

I urge people to jot down as much vehicle information as possible when seeing anyone speeding or driving dangerously and report it to the local CHP office (Oceanside).

Hopefully with enough people doing so, a positive impact can be effected.

Thank you, Mr. Oyler, for inspiring me to submit this letter!
