Agnes Newell

Agnes Newell, 82, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Fallbrook, CA, on March 24, 2008, due to causes related to Parkinson’s disease.

Mrs. Newell was born February 1, 1926, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, to William Gillespie and Ellen Butler-Gillespie.

After immigrating to the United States in 1948, she settled initially in Santa Monica, CA, where she met her future husband, John Newell. They enjoyed more than 52 years of marriage together.

Mrs. Newell became a mother and homemaker raising five children while traveling with her husband, a career serviceman in the US Air Force, to numerous military assignments.

After many years of military life, the family returned to California in 1974, settling in Fallbrook.

While in Fallbrook, Mrs. Newell enjoyed gardening, golfing and her long participation with St. Peter’s Church and its associated Ladies Guild.

What she enjoyed most, though, were the frequent visits to her home by family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Newell is survived by her children, Michael Newell, Las Vegas, NV, Karen Ciccone, Encinitas, CA, Kathy Jackson and Mary Ellen Denny, Fallbrook, and John P. Newell, Lake Charles, LA; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings Gloria Brown, Beatrice Rodgers and Bill Gillespie.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Newell.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 4, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 450 South Stage Coach Lane. A reception will immediately follow at the church hall.
