Woman's organization celebrates 166 Years

Women of the Fallbrook 1st, 2nd and 5th Wards of the Vista Stake of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated the 166th anniversary of the Relief Society. This woman’s auxiliary organization of the church was formed March 17, 1842, making it one of the oldest women’s organizations in this country.

Each of the church’s worldwide units has its own Relief Society auxiliary, making it one of the largest women’s organizations in the world. Each of the three Fallbrook Relief Society auxiliaries held their own gathering to celebrate this event. Birthday cakes were centerpieces for the tables in a birthday dinner hosted by the Fallbrook 2nd Ward.

The Fallbrook 1st Ward displayed antiques relating to their pioneer ancestors who were among the original members of the Relief Society. The Fallbrook 1st Ward holds the honor of being the first Relief Society in Fallbrook.

The events provided an evening of social interaction with a chance to reflect on the purpose for creation of the Relief Society auxiliary. It has the same mission today as when it was formed over one and a half centuries ago, to educate the women of the church, to encourage them to render spiritual and material assistance to those in need and to aid and sustain women and families in the community. The motto of the Relief Society continues to be “Charity Never Faileth.”
