Big Band Jazz Concert to benefit Fallbrook HS band program

FALLBROOK- The Big Band & Jazz Hall of Fame Orchestra will present, “Gems of Big Band Jazz,” on Sunday, April 20 at the Bob Burton Center for Performing Arts in Fallbrook.

The 2:30 p.m. show, a fundraiser for the Fallbrook High School Band Program, will feature classic songs associated with legendary bandleaders and composers from the Golden Era of Big Band Jazz music, including Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Stan Kenton, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, as well as Carlsbad’s own legendary Sammy Nestico.

The concert is in keeping with the Big Band & Jazz Hall of Fame’s non-profit organizational mission to support music programs in area schools. Recent cuts in California’s educational budget are affecting programs across the board, including arts programs in many schools. The event is co-sponsored by Fallbrook High School’s Band Boosters, a non-profit corporation developed to oversee additional funding for the band program.

“We have the most under-funded music department in the area,” says Jim DeBoer, president of the Fallbrook High School Band Boosters. “But we have the best performing arts center (Bob Burton Center) and we are determined to help put Fallbrook’s arts programs on the map.”

The Bob Burton Center for Performing Arts is located on the campus of Fallbrook High School at 2400 S. Stagecoach Lane, off South Mission Road. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at http://www.fallbrookhighschoolband.com, as well as at the door on the day of the show. Tickets can also be purchased at Fallbrook’s Avocado Festival the day of the concert. For further information, call Jim DeBoer at 760-805-2640.
